Using theories of Eastern Medicine, Acupuncture uses a map of specific points around the body to identify places for fine needle insertion determined to effect relief from pain, treat chronic issues like allergies or sinus infection, fertility, muscle relaxation, and general health. Acupuncture treatments include both needle and non-needle techniques. Needles are used to painlessly reach micro-pressure points that effect your nervous system and natural balances of energies. Another technique used by acupuncturists is called "cupping" which uses cup shaped vacuums to painlessly draw out toxins.
Acupuncture treatment has been accepted by the FDA as a valid form of medicine in 1996; both the World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health have concluded that acupuncture is effective and useful for the treatment of chronic conditions and illnesses.
What is Cupping?
Tension and toxins are brought to the surface of the skin from deeper layers by use of suction cups. Cupping is used to invigorate the blood as well as dispersing congestions of Qi and blood. The body’s natural balance and rejuvenation is encouraged through cupping.
Cupping may leave marks on the skin. They are in the round shape of the cup, and may be red to purlish in color. Depending on the stagnation that is present in your body, the marks could take a week to 10 days to clear up. As you continue treatment, you should notice less and less marks as the stagnation is clearing up.
How is it done?
Plastic cups are used, and air is manually removed with the aid of a suction gun. A vacuum is created when the air is pulled out through a nozzle in the top of the cup, pulling the skin firmly. The unique effect of the suction and pull stagnant fluids out of the tissues and release adhesions in the fascia. The results can invigorate healing in the treated area and dramatically relieve chronic pain.
